What is SolarWise for Schools?
- SolarWise for Schools is a special fund created by Progress Energy that purchases solar energy (photovoltaic) systems for Florida schools.
- SolarWise for Schools provides teachers and students with a valuable, interactive learning tool for solar energy education.
How can I support SolarWise for Schools?
Supporting SolarWise for Schools is easy and requires no out-of-pocket contributions.
Step 1: Enroll in Progress Energy's EnergyWise program.
Step 2: Sign up for the SolarWise for Schools option.
- EnergyWise offers monthly credits on your energy bill.*
- When you sign up for the SolarWise for Schools option, your EnergyWise monthly credits - which could total over $145 a year - are automatically contributed to the SolarWise for Schools fund.**
How does EnergyWise work?
Enroll in EnergyWise and Progress Energy will install, free of charge, a small device (usually in the garage) that enables us to temporarily cycle off power to select electrical systems in your home during periods of peak community demand.
- Cycles are infrequent, brief and usually unnoticeable.

- All of your EnergyWise contributions go toward the funding and administration of SolarWise for Schools.
- You'll help educate future generations about renewable energy.
- The more systems you enroll in EnergyWise (electric water heater/heating/cooling/pool pump), the more contributions you'll make to SolarWise for Schools.
- You'll also receive a special SolarWise for Schools newsletter to keep you updated on the program.

EnergyWise and SolarWise for Schools are part of Progress Energy's approach to ensure clean, reliable, affordable power today and in the future by using a balance of energy efficiency, new, environmentally responsible technology and alter native energy projects like biomass, solar power and hydrogen fuel cells.
*Contributions will be issued monthly when total electric usage is 600 kWh or higher. Contributions are prorated according to usage above 600 kWh. Depending on the options selected, participants must have electric centrally ducted heating and cooling or heating and water heating.
** Contributions are not tax-deductible and are voluntary. SolarWise for Schools requires a minimum 2-year participation. You have the option to participate in the EnergyWise program without participating in SolarWise for Schools.
