Spotlight on Cambridge Homes

Cambridge Homes has achieved the highest standard in new-home energy efficiency by earning the Home Advantage Premium Energy Saver/Energy Star designation from Progress Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In fact, Cambridge is so committed to the importance of Home Advantage Premium Energy Saver/Energy Star compliance that the company is one of the first builders in Florida to achieve the 100 percent rating from the EPA. That means every single home Cambridge builds earns the highest designation for energy efficiency from both Progress Energy and the EPA.

Compliance at the Home Advantage Premium Energy Saver/Energy Star level depends on a variety of construction components and techniques, with factors including the orientation of the home on the lot and the design of overhangs and porches that keep the home cool. High efficiency heat pumps, upgraded attic insulation, duct systems sealed with mastic, and programmable thermostats are all part of every home's specifications. This system approach to construction means that each home will be at least 30 percent more energy efficient than a standard home built to meet the Model Energy code.

The bottom line, says Scott South, president of the Cambridge Homes Florida division, "is a home that consumes at least 30 percent less energy than required by the national Model Energy code while maintaining or improving indoor air quality. We have worked closely with Progress Energy on energy efficient techniques and their state-certified inspectors helped us achieve the quality control essential to Energy Star compliance. The benefits are many."

  • Superior Comfort - with enhanced insulation that keeps the home cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter
  • Improved Indoor Air Quality - a duct system using superior sealing material eliminates the intrusion of unconditioned air and contaminants from outside
  • Quality Construction - greater attention is paid to energy-saving details that transfer to every phase of the building process
  • Higher Resale Value - lower utility bills and up-to-date building technologies set Cambridge Homes apart from their competition
  • Easy Access to Preferred Mortgage Financing-an important perk of the Energy Star rating

Cambridge Homes is currently offering homes of various price ranges and styles in 16 Florida communities. To find out more about the company and the advantages of Energy Star construction, visit Cambridge Homes.
