Step 1: Prepare for Interconnection: Review Progress Energy's interconnection standards and evaluate which meter base configuration best meets your situation.
Renewable systems, such as solar, wind or methane fueled generation, come in a variety of sizes based on nameplate capacity. Capacity is measured in kilowatts and designated as kW. The first step in selling the output of a system to Progress Energy is to safely connect the generator to the electric grid. This is necessary for all systems, including such technologies as residential solar. For residential applications and other generation rated 10 kW or less, Progress Energy offers a uniform standard for interconnection (below) that should be reviewed in the initial phase of project development.
Sell-All (10kW and Less) Meter-Base Configurations:
In addition to reviewing the interconnection standards, it is important to consider how the electricity generated from the renewable source will be metered. There are two recommended meter base configurations for a "Sell-All" arrangement:
1.) Typical installation for new construction with a new PV system:
2.) Typical installation for existing construction with a new PV system
Electrical Inspection:
An electrical inspection must be completed by the local authority (city or county) before Progress Energy can place a meter in the "Sell-All" meter base. Coordinate this with your vendor and your electrician.
