If you’re planning to build or buy a new home, choose an energy-efficient home that’s built to save you money, provide greater comfort and help protect the environment by using less energy.

The Home Advantage home does all that and more because it meets or exceeds ENERGY STAR standards.   ENERGY STAR certified homes are at least 15 percent more efficient than standard homes and include a variety of energy-saving features such as:

  • Efficient heating and cooling equipment
  • Tight construction
  • Effective insulation
  • Sealed air ducts
  • High-performance windows
  • Third-party verification: All homes must be certified as ENERGY STAR by an independent Home Energy rater (HERS rater)

To learn more about the features and benefits of the ENERGY STAR qualified new homes program take the tour below.

Ensure your new home has the advantage.

STEP 1

Choose an official Progress Energy Home Advantage Builder from this list of builders who build Home Advantage Homes.

STEP 2

Work with your Home Advantage builder and the Home Advantage Buyers Checklist to create a plan for building a new home that meets ENERGY STAR’s requirements for energy efficiency.

STEP 3

Your builder will work with an independent Home Energy Rater (HERS rater) who will inspect and test your home during and after construction to verify that it meets ENERGY STAR requirements. For a list of qualified HERS Raters click here.

STEP 4

The HERS rater provides an ENERGY STAR certificate that verifies the home meets all specified requirements and assigns the home a HERS score.

STEP 5
The builder or HERS rater sends the ENERGY STAR certificate to Progress Energy to qualify your home for a 5 percent discount for the life of the home.
