On July 13, 2008, Progress Energy celebrated 100 years of providing electric service in North Carolina.

This 100th anniversary enables Progress Energy to acknowledge the contributions made by our many former and current employees and to express our commitment to the communities we serve.

As part of the company's Century of Progress commemoration this summer, Progress Energy employees completed 182 community service projects in the Carolinas and Florida.

Projects included employees helping build houses for Habitat for Humanity, conducting food drives for local food banks, painting bathrooms and hallways at a local youth center, delivering Meals on Wheels, building a wheelchair ramp for an individual in need and helping tutor students through Communities In Schools. "As we begin our second century of service, we remain committed to being a reliable source of energy -- not only electricity for our customers' homes and businesses, but also the kind of energy that helps build and sustain our communities."
