Progress Energy Florida plans to improve the transmission line in the Oldsmar and Palm Harbor areas of Pinellas County.

The project will replace the existing transmission structures with new poles inside Progress Energy's existing right of way. In most cases, the existing wooden or steel structures will be replaced with single concrete poles near their current locations. In some areas, Progress Energy's right of way crosses Tampa Electric Co.'s territory in order to efficiently reach our customers.

The project runs nine miles, starting at our Higgins substation, on the site of the former power plant. The line will connect through our Oldsmar substation, 3699 State Road 584, and will end at our Curlew substation, 3651 Wynford Dr. in Palm Harbor.

Construction will occur in two phases. The first phase, from Higgins to Oldsmar, is scheduled to begin in February 2008 and will continue through June 2008. The second phase, from Oldsmar to Curlew, will begin in October 2008 and will continue through January 2009. Upon completion of the project, all construction material and debris will be removed, and the right of way will be restored as nearly as possible to its original condition.
