Progress Energy Florida, Orlando Utilities Commission and Florida Power & Light are working together to invest in a project to ensure a reliable supply of electricity to homes, schools and businesses in Central Florida. The companies plan to build a 230-kilovolt (kV) transmission line to meet the increased demand of existing and future customers.
This project will include construction of a transmission line on new, single concrete poles in Orange County. The existing wooden poles will be removed.
The line will be 13 miles long, beginning at OUC’s Stanton power plant. The line will run northwest to Progress Energy’s East Orange substation, follow the path of the existing 69-kV line to PEF’s Bithlo substation, and will end at FPL’s transmission corridor east of Tanner Road.
Construction is expected to begin in summer 2009 and will continue through December 2010. Upon completion of the project, all construction material and debris will be removed, and the right of way will be restored as nearly as possible to its original condition.
