Anclote
The two-unit, 1,011-megawatt (MW) oil-fired Anclote Plant is located near Holiday, Fla.

Asheville
The two-unit, 376-MW coal-fired Asheville Plant is located at Skyland, N.C. The site also includes two combustion turbines capable of producing 324 MW.

Cape Fear
The Cape Fear Plant is located near Moncure, N.C., and began commercial operation in 1923 as the company’s first coal-fired facility. Additional units came into service in 1924, 1956, 1958 and 1969. Today, the plant consists of two coal-fired units capable of producing a total of 316 MW and two combined cycle units.

Crystal River
The four-unit Crystal River steam complex, located near Crystal River, Fla., has four coal-fired steam units capable of producing 2,267 MW. The site includes two units built in the 1960s and two units built in the 1980s. The site also includes the Crystal River Nuclear Plant capable of producing 860 MW.

Lee
The Lee Plant, part of the H.F. Lee Energy Complex, is located on the Neuse River near Goldsboro, N.C., and contains three coal-fired steam units capable of producing 397 MW as well as four combustion turbine units. The plant began operation in 1951, with additions in 1952, 1962, 1968 and 1971. The company has announced plans to build a new, 950-MW gas-fired combined-cycle unit scheduled to begin operation in 2013. The coal-fired units will be retired once the new power block comes online.

Mayo
The single-unit, 727-MW coal-fired Mayo Plant is located near Roxboro, N.C.

Robinson
The single-unit, 177-MW coal-fired Robinson Plant is located near Hartsville, S.C. This site also includes the Robinson Nuclear Plant and one small combustion turbine.

Roxboro
The four-unit, 2,422-MW coal-fired Roxboro Steam Plant, one of the largest power plants in the United States, is located in Semora, N.C. See our clean air page for more information about air-pollution control equipment Progress Energy has added to the Roxboro Plant.

Sutton
The three-unit, 604-MW coal-fired Sutton Plant is located near Wilmington, N.C., on a site that also includes three small combustion turbines. The company has announced plans to build a new, gas-fired 600-MW combined-cycle unit scheduled to begin operation in 2014. The coal-fired units will be retired once the new power block comes online.

Suwannee
The Suwannee Plant, located on the banks of the Suwannee River near Live Oak, Fla., contains three oil-fired steam units capable of generating a total of 131 MW, as well as three combustion turbine units.

Weatherspoon
The three-unit, 171-MW coal-fired Weatherspoon Plant is located near Lumberton, N.C. The site also includes four combustion turbines.
